![]() Chromatic aberration is controlled at the long end of the focal length through the optimized design of the glass elements and a dust and splash proof construction ensures a high degree of durability. Boasting 2 FLD glass elements (performance equal to fluorite) and 3 SLD glass elements, the new Sigma 150-600mm Sport produces incredibly sharp images y through the entire zoom range. Still interested in comments from anyone who has tried both Sigma-S and Sigma-C.Ĭan't see how adding more elements would have an impact on weather sealing.ĭesigned and executed for the most demanding types of photography, the Sigma 150-600mm 5-6.3 DG HSM OS Sports lens is the new standard for telephoto zooms. If I want a lighter weight option for walking long distances I already have a Canon 400/5.6 I might also consider adding a 100-400II. If the Sports is found to give better IQ at 600mm I am prepared to live with the weight as I will be using the lens from hides or on a monopod/tripod much of the time. Yes, weight of the Sports can be an issue for some folks. ![]() I have to agree, but a periodic table has more than a hundred elements and doesn't have much to show for it-optically.Īs regards differences in lens design (number of elements etc), I have seen a quote attributed to Sigma saying that the extra lens elements on the Sports model were necessary to produce the weathersealed design and not specifically to achieve better IQ than the Contemporary. I guess they're both fine lenses but don't necessarily share the same attributes. ![]() Whether the differences are significant depends on the photographer. 'Lab tests' don't always tell the full story. Sharpness is only one part of the equations, with other optical aberrations playing a part, not forgetting Bokeh. The Sport has 24 elements in 16 groups whilst the contemporary has 20 in 14. Others are adamant that they are indistinguishable (especially in the centre of the frame) - and that with the Sports, you are really only paying extra for the increased weathersealing and ruggedness. Some folks are adamant that the Sports is sharper. There seems to be conflicting things stated on the internet about this. I am keen to hear from people who have tried out both the Sigma 150-600 Sports and the Sigma 150-600 Contemporary - preferably side-by-side with the same camera body, subject and settings.Īt 600mm, is the Sports really sharper than the Contemporary?
